ICT Cluster Burgas is part of the network of organisations supporting the European project Start-Cup Academy, implemented under the Erasmus+ programme and focused on developing entrepreneurial skills, student entrepreneurship, and the creation of new start-up companies in Europe. The Cluster participates in the initiative as an associated partner, representing the technological and entrepreneurial ecosystem of Burgas and Southeast Bulgaria.
From an idea to a sustainable start-up
The main objective of Start-Cup Academy is to support potential start-up founders in transforming their ideas into viable and sustainable business models. The project brings together the expertise of universities, innovation organisations, and business support structures from different European countries.
Particular emphasis is placed on students and young entrepreneurs, who are given the opportunity to develop practical knowledge and skills needed both to start and manage their own businesses and to perform successfully in start-up competitions and entrepreneurial initiatives.
As part of the project, a common methodology, training materials, digital educational resources, and practical tools are being developed. The topics include identifying business opportunities, developing business models, sustainable entrepreneurship, financial literacy, access to funding and investment, project management, digital tools, public speaking, and presenting business ideas to potential partners and investors.
European experience with application at regional level
ICT Cluster Burgas’ participation in the Start-Cup Academy network is a natural continuation of the organisation’s work to develop the local technological and entrepreneurial ecosystem. The Cluster brings together more than 30 companies from the technology sector and works in partnership with businesses, academia, and public institutions to create better conditions for the development of innovation in Burgas and Southeast Bulgaria.
Among the good practices from the region included in the Start-Cup Academy research are initiatives supporting start-ups and young entrepreneurs in Burgas. In this way, the accumulated regional experience becomes part of a broader European exchange of knowledge and models for fostering entrepreneurship.
The project has already completed a research phase in which existing mechanisms for supporting start-ups, entrepreneurship education, emerging skills needs, and models of interaction between universities, businesses, incubators, and innovation organisations were analysed. The results have been used as a basis for developing the Start-Cup Academy training programme and practical tools.
Supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs
For ICT Cluster Burgas, participation in initiatives such as Start-Cup Academy contributes to strengthening the connection between the technology sector, education, and entrepreneurship, as well as to integrating Burgas into European networks for the exchange of knowledge and good practices.
Through such international partnerships, more opportunities are created for young people to develop their ideas, acquire practical entrepreneurial skills, and gain access to knowledge and models that can support them on the journey from an initial idea to building a successful business.
